Science Day
We are going to embark on a science fair project. The end project will be due on October 16, 2007.
You
will be presenting your project to the class and then your project will be on
display for the whole school to see.
Below
are the steps you must take to complete this project:
I.
Topic: TBD by you and due to me by Wednesday
September 5, 2007.
II.
Use the scientific method to plan your project.
III.
You need to make a plan
A. Decide what items you are going to
test.
B.
Predict – Make predictions on the outcome of your
experiment. What is your hypothesis?
C. Decide how you will test your
hypothesis. You may need to research your topic in books, magazines or on the
internet. (You must use at least 2
different books as your sited research material)
D. Prepare a data table in your science
journal to record your observations.
E. Identify all constants, variable, and
controls of the experiment.
Follow
your Plan
I.
Make sure your plan is approved by Wednesday September 5, 2007.
II.
Observe: Set up your experiment and
collect data as planned. Three trials should be done on your experiment to
compare and contrast results.
III.
Record Data: While doing the experiment, record your observations and complete your
data tables in your Science Journal.
Analyze
Your Data
I.
Describe your results: Did each trial have the same outcome? If not, which did and which did not?
II.
Were your
predictions correct?
III.
Compare each trial and see what affected the results.
I.
What general statements can you make about the outcome of your
experiment?
II.
Determine whether your results support your hypothesis.
III.
Explain why you think your hypothesis was supported or
not. What variables affected the results?
This
project will be worth two Lab grades.
Make sure you answer all of the above questions and use a tri-fold
presentation board to display your results.
Pictures of the actual experiment as well as all three trials will be
needed for displaying. You may bring in actual models if you would like.
Make
sure to site where you did your research and to use at least two books as a
reference.
Grading Rubric:
Use
of the Scientific Method – 40
points
