Language Arts

In Guided Reading groups students worked very hard at using the comprehension skills we have been working on since school started. I am very impressed!

 Grammar

This week we began a unit on apostrophes. This week’s focus was the contraction apostrophe. Students worked hard at figuring out what letters to leave in and which to take out.

Phonics

We started unit 2 this week. Our focus was the short a and short I sounds.

Spelling

No spelling or DOL next week. We will do a  vocabulary focus and test the order and spelling of the planets. You will find the vocabulary words and a study guide in today’s homefolder.

Math

We continue to work on fact power this week. Students

learned the game Name that number, which you can play with a deck of cards at home. Ask your child to teach you! We reviewed frame and arrows and What’s My Rule.

T
he Green Team here at school is launching a school wide recycling program. We met “Wasteman” on Wednesday and learned better ways to recycle. He has presented a challenge to the students to see if we can do better. We ask that all students pack a waste free lunch next Friday. See the website below for more information:

This and That
*As we begin our school wide cultural theme on Asia, our first two stops will be North and South Korea. As we begin this endeavor we need a few supplies from home. The first is an empty cereal box or cracker box the same shape as a cereal box. If you have these please send them in ASAP.  We are wanting to display what we have started at Open House, so send them in quick:)

*I hope rocket building is coming along. We will have our launch on Thursday, the 27th at 2:40. We will be in the star courtyard. Hope you can join us!

Book Buddies

We had a super time with our Book Buddies today. We are paired with some of the 8th graders. Today students did interviews and then practiced restating the answers. Find the interview results as well as some great pictures hanging in the hallway.
