In Guided Reading groups we continued reading stories about various Indian tribes. Each story had a child as the main character. It was great perspective for the students. We compared their lives to that of an Indian child.
In Grammar, we finished abbreviations and have started a unit on homophones.
Phonics focused Text Box: on consonant blends.
Spelling Core Words are long, little, very, after, word. Super Speller words are stagecoach, wagon, abacus, settler, wilderness.
In Math we worked finished Unit 5. Then began work on addition in Unit 6. Unit 5 assessments will be sent home next week.

I hope you have all had a chance to see the Indian villages in the hallway. If not, check them out. The students are very proud of their hard work!

Auction Time

The school auction is fast approaching and we need to donate something wonderful from our class. Shannon Gabel has offered to help, but we will need more hands. Ideas are also needed. Please see me ASAP if you would like to help or have an idea for us!

Apple Valley School

Today students were divided into their family groups and they learned their new name, age, and about their family. They were also given their poems. We will work on the poems in class, but they will need extra work at home. I have enclosed a copy in the homefolder today. Next week we will begin our new unit by beginning pioneer challenges, reading about pioneers, and singing pioneer songs.  They have already started learning the Virginia Reel in PE. Ask your child how it is going and who their dance party is.  For our Graduation (winter party) Susan Beard is signed up for food, Mary DeCoursey for paper goods, and Shannon Gabel for drinks. We will be doing this with Mrs. Bammes’ class and we could use a few more volunteers for food items. Let me know if you can help.
