Language Arts

We jumped into reading groups this week. Students are still learning the process of rotating from centers, to seatwork, and reading. Time management is a big skill that we work on at this time.

 Grammar

We wrapped up our unit on ending punctuation. We will continue to visit these concepts in DOL, Writer’s Workshop, and everyday writing.

Phonics

This week we

focused on the hard and soft sounds of c and g.

Spelling

Core Words for next week are will, each, about, how, up.  The Super Speller words are constellation, axis, rotate, gravity, telescope. In the homefolder today you will find suggested ways to study spelling words. You will also find a Words to Learn sheet. These will come home every Friday

Math

We  completed Unit 1 this week. The students are doing well with review skills from last year. The assessments are a little different this year. Part A covers concepts students should have mastered by the end of the unit. That is the part I take a grade on. Part B covers concepts students should be developing. While I put a number score on it, I don’t record that score.

 Volunteer Opportunities

We completed our Project Polaris work. Students worked daily on estimating, measuring and working as a team. For the efforts they earned Starbucks. With the Starbucks they purchased pieces of a space station. With the pieces, each pod built their part

of one intergalactic

station. You will get
