Third quarter is Alive!

And so are those germs! We wash our hands every time before and after (at least we should after as well as before) we use the computer lab.

Pre-K have still been working on logging on to the computers, learning the various tools in Kid Pix, exiting out of Kid Pix, and logging off of the computers. We are getting ready to start a “quilting” project!

Kindergarteners have a theme a week!  Wow is it hard to keep up with them?!?!  We try in the computer lab to center our projects on what is going on in class.  This week is “Community Helpers” followed the next week by “Kansas,” and then we are on in to February with “Five Senses,” “Valentine’s Day,” “Circus,” and “Dr. Seuss!”  My FAVORITE Kindergarten month!

1st Grade has been researching winter fun and Penguins, of course!  Those little black and white creatures and so interesting

2nd – 8th Grades are all working hard on their keyboarding skills.  Some on learning the keys, others on accuracy, and still others on speed!

2nd graders are deep in search of animals during the month of January and we have been going along with the Magic School Bus on a ride to discover “Animals!”

3rd Grade learned a little more about Kansas and displayed what they learned in pictures they created. Next will be time to research the annual Iditarod race and to choose a musher. They will also be working on their Student Treasures.

4th graders have been learning about Explorers and have created “Wanted Posters” of their explorer that they will portray in the annual Wax Museum. Next up will be the map of the land from the book The Wizard of Oz.

5th Grade computer classes have been working on their keyboarding skills and creating letterheads. Next up, Exchange City and research on ancient Gods and Goddesses.

This second semester I see 6th Grade MacDonald Homeroom, 7th Grade Martinez Homeroom, and 8th Grade Lamb Homeroom classes twice a week in the computer lab.  One day a week is dedicated to keyboarding skill building and assessment.  The other day of the week is project day where students create various projects using the software available or Internet tools.

6th Grade will be creating Brochures using MS Publisher after first researching a holiday they chose from a list we brainstormed in class.

7th Grade will be creating a PowerPoint presentation about an Asian country of their choice from a list presented in class.  This will be created after researching the country and then presented to the rest of the class.

8th Grade students are working on the yearbook and creating their own businesses.  In creating their own business they are creating various documents that would be needed to run a business.  These include logos, letters, flyers, advertisements, web pages, brochures, business cards, and anything else we come up with.
