National History Club Meeting

Students interested in forming a local chapter of The National History Club are invited to an organizational meeting on Friday, September 8 at 8 a.m. With enough student desire and parental support I envision club members attending historical outings in the community or sponsoring events at TCS to foster an appreciation for history. Want to learn about the National History Club? Check out this site: http://www.tcr.org/nhc/index.htm

 Social Studies-Class Summaries

6th Grade- Students are learning about the field of geography, and the importance of a geographer’s perspective. Be sure to inquire about the five themes of geography.

7th Grade- Our studies of U.S. History will begin around 1450 CE. We will look at the state of the world, prior to Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. This includes learning about various aspects of several groups of indigenous people.

8th Grade- Our class discussions have been fueled by the importance of judicial review in the American legal system. Ask them about Marbury v. Madison.

African Diaspora

This year TCS will enhance its curriculum by studying the influence of Africans and their descendents on the world in places including Europe, the Caribbean, the United States, Canada, South America, Central America, and Asia. Keep an eye out for upcoming events!

Bald Eagle, What?

Interested in visiting a former capital in Kansas? Consider traveling to Lecompton, Kansas, to attend the Bald Eagle Rendezvous on September 22-24. Festivities will highlight various ways of life during Territorial Kansas. Details for the event are located at:
