The Collegiate Connection

From Our Head of School
Dear Parents and Friends, Mr. Hudspeth

To our new families: Welcome to Topeka Collegiate School! To returning families: Wow, what a quick summer! We are excited about the upcoming year and all that it brings.

We have decided to bring the "Back-to-School" picnic back to school! The date is Tuesday, August 19, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. (Please see details in the box below this letter.) The all-school picnic is a fun event and a great way to start the new school year.

At Collegiate we talk a lot about community because of the importance of working together for our children. We depend on parents to participate in their children's education because we are a team. We all benefit from an active, supportive community. Together, we can build a stronger school and establish a greater sense of family. I cannot overemphasize the importance of a positive, productive, cohesive school.

When families enter Topeka Collegiate School they make a commitment to providing their child with the finest educational experience available. Once here, they find that the Topeka Collegiate School academic experience is enriched by special relationships - with teachers, coaches, community leaders, other parents, and fellow students. This positive school environment can flourish only when families are active and involved.

We are grateful for the committed and generous members of our school community who make Topeka Collegiate School a personal and philanthropic priority. Like independent schools across the country, we cannot cover the cost of the annual operating budget or capital projects with tuition alone. That is why tax-free, charitable contributions are a traditional part of the independent school culture. Topeka Collegiate School must rely on charitable support from parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends in order to achieve its mission. While contributions are voluntary and amounts vary, it is critical that all parents participate at some level.

When school is underway, I will discuss the plans to enhance our school and the many ways that you can participate in helping Topeka Collegiate School thrive as an innovative leader in education. Those who contribute to Topeka Collegiate School take pride in knowing that they are investing in our children.
Thank you in advance for your support and desire to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Looking forward to seeing you at the picnic!

New Drop-off and Pick-up Procedure
We will be implementing our new pick-up and drop-off procedure soon. It is designed to maximize our children's safety during the high traffic periods each day. We are waiting for the go-ahead from the City of Topeka and we will let you know when we receive it.

When the new system begins, Eveningside Drive will be one-way only from 23rd Street north to 22nd Street from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. every weekday. The city will be assisting us with the transition to the new system for the first few weeks. There will be designated drop-off and pick-up areas for lower and middle school students. Families with both lower and middle school children are asked to use the lower school drop-off and pick-up zone.

More information and a detailed diagram will be available as we get closer to switching to the new system.
