Thumbs up: THS, Collegiate students
The Capital-Journal Published Wednesday, June 25, 2008
We want to extend our congratulations to the Topeka Collegiate and Topeka High School students who won top honors last week in the National History Day competition at College Park, Md.
Topeka High School's Sjobor Hammer won in the senior individual documentary category and Collegiate's Shelby Carpenter, Soren Lamb and Nyalia Lui won for their junior group performance. The four extended a history of Shawnee County students performing well at the annual national competition. At the state competition in April, 20 students from county schools qualified for the national competition.
We commend them all, and the teachers who gave their time to provide supervision and guidance as the students researched their projects. Historical research can run the gamut from exciting to tedious and sometimes frustrating. Sticking with the task and performing at the highest level isn't easy, and those who do it deserve all the recognition they get for a job well done.
NOTE: THS Student Sjobor Hammer '06 is a TCS Alum.
