Spellers gear up for county bee

The best young spellers in the county will compete in The Topeka Capital-Journal’s 58th annual Shawnee County Spelling Bee at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Whitson Elementary School Auditorium, 1725 S.W. Arnold.

Approximately 75 students are registered to compete in the oral spelldown.

The county champion and runner-up will win the right to represent Shawnee County at The Topeka Capital-Journal’s 58th annual Regional Spelling Bee at Topeka West High School on March 5. The winner of the regional bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee on June 1-2 in Washington, D.C.

The 2011 Shawnee County spellers are:
