Congratulations to our mathletes for their awesome performance at the 23rd annual MATHCOUNTS regional competition on February 11 at the University of Kansas. Students from eight area schools competed in a timed mathematics competition that emphasizes both individual and team skills. Our team of eighth grader Sarah Padgett, seventh graders Daniel Kennedy and David Wang and sixth grader Nicky Henriquez took first place in the team competition. Our top individuals were: eighth grader Nick Gitto 12th place, eighth grader Haden Beardmore 11th place, sixth grader Nicky Henriquez 8th place, and seventh grader David Wang 2nd place.

Coach Phyllis Hoyt says, “The fact that we did so well in the Team Round is a real indicator of how well our mathletes work together and of their overall strength. Great job!”

David Wang and the other top four individuals were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the University of Kansas School of Engineering.

Our team will advance to the Kansas MATHCOUNTS Competition on March 11 in Salina.  MATHCOUNTS is a national mathematics enrichment, coaching and competition program that increases enthusiasm for and enhances achievement in middle schools throughout the United States.
