National History Day -- More honors

Those wonderful Kansas kids have done it again, bringing home glory from the National History Day competition.

Kansans won three gold medals and three special awards.

Alex Rankin, Landon Middle School, took first place in historical papers for the junior division. Topeka Collegiate students Sjobor Hammer and Anna Hamilton won first in the group documentary category for the junior division.

Topeka Collegiate students Parker Featherston and Daniel Mandel won an outstanding state junior entry award.

Lawrence High School's Timmia Hearn-Feldman won first place in senior individual performances, and Samuel Huneke won the 2006 Jamestown Award Winner for senior individual documentary.

Local competitions in Kansas attracted 1,200 students competing for a chance to go to the national competition.

Congratulations to all who competed. Even if you didn't go to Washington, D.C., for the national event, we hope you enjoyed your learning experience.
