Diversity Committee Charter
ROLE
The primary role of the Diversity Committee of Topeka Collegiate School, Inc. (the “School”) is to assist the School’s Board of Trustees (the “Board”) in fulfilling its responsibilities for:
- Maintaining an inclusive school environment as dictated by the mission statement.
- Following the NAIS guidelines as they relate to equity and justice.

The Diversity Committee has authority and is empowered to:
RESPONSIBILITY
In accordance with applicable provisions of the School’s Bylaws, the Diversity Committee has the following responsibilities:
- Support diversity and inclusion in the curriculum and all areas of school life.
- Recommend to the Board policies that facilitate the School’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive School community, and to assist the Board in the implementation of such policies. In this regard, such policies will emphasize the need to educate the School community that diversity and inclusiveness involve ongoing learning and self-assessment.
- Maintain commitment to academic rigor.
MEETINGS
The Diversity Committee will meet at least four times per year. All committee members are expected to attend each meeting — in person or via teleconference. The Head of School, or his or her designee will serve as the liaison to the Diversity Committee, will attend the meetings of the Diversity Committee, with the exception of executive sessions. The Diversity Committee will invite members of staff or others to attend meetings and provide pertinent information, as necessary.
An agenda will be provided by email to the Diversity Committee in advance of its meetings. The official version of the materials shall be maintained by the Head of School or his or her designee. Minutes of all Diversity Committee meetings will be prepared and presented to the Diversity Committee electronically for approval. The Diversity Committee will provide summaries of its discussions and actions to the Board in the monthly Board meeting materials.
