As you likely know, the Halloween celebration is an exciting day here at Topeka Collegiate! This year's festivities are scheduled on Friday, October 29, 2021.
Musical Assembly, 8:30 AM
We will begin with a musical assembly at 8:30 AM. Parents are invited to attend, but should plan to arrive early, as parking is limited. We ask that you do not park in the Crestview United Methodist Church parking lot.
Mrs. Siebert and the students are excited to have you here in-person. Each grade level group (early childhood, lower school, and middle school) will share a couple of Halloween songs or poems. Then they will invite all of our guests to join in singing the traditional “Ghost of John” and “Witches Brew.” To help keep everyone safe, everyone in the building will be masked, and students will also be spaced as much as possible. Each grade level group will perform for only a short time in this program, but if safety permits, they will each be featured in a full-length music performance later in the school year.
School Parade, 9:15 AM
Plan to stay for the parade after the assembly (at or around 9:15) where our Grand Marshall, Edison (Prekindergarten), and Head of School, Dr. Rantz, will lead the students and faculty on the parade route. Students will exit the gym, walk through the courtyard, and work their way back to their classrooms through the southeast doors near the playground and early childhood classrooms. Once back in the classrooms, students will be engaged in activities provided by the teachers.
Classroom Halloween Parties, 11:15 AM
Most homerooms will be having a Halloween party at or around 11:15 AM. Look for more details later in the month in the weekly newsletter from your child’s teacher.
School Dismissal, Noon
Friday, October 29 is a half-day of school. Morning Adventures and before-care will be available, but no after-care or Afternoon Adventures will be provided. No lunch will be served, as students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.
As you help your child choose a costume, please help them use good judgment in picking an appropriate theme. Students should not wear masks or costumes that may be perceived as being too aggressive, horrific, gory or bloody, violent, or sexually provocative. Within reason, classical monsters such as Dracula or Frankenstein are allowed. Children are expected to come to school in costume. Please label all parts with your child’s name.
Also, please keep in mind that no weapons of any kind are allowed on the Topeka Collegiate campus, not even play weapons. Please don’t send a cutlass with your swashbuckler, a light saber with your Jedi knight, or a six-shooter with your cowboy.
